The Volkswagen scandal has headlines hitting because it used software designed to cheat US emissions tests. The software is in use in millions of cars. I have been describing the impact on the company and the car industry. Chairman Mao once said that it’s far too early to tell what the full consequences will be.I’m looking at this from an ethical perspective. If the software was intended to give wrong results in emissions tests and it does what it is want to do, then there are some responsibilities testers as well as with the developers.
