    It depends on your career goal. Software development is very crowded right now while automation is very new. In my opinion with automation you will have more opportunities and career path.

    In general, I do agree with what Amit has said.

    However, you also understand what you are trying to achieve. If you find it's hard to answer this question or don't know which one is fit for you, why not try both. If you want to go far, go with what you love doing everyday.
